Abstract

This study investigates the influence of amanah (trustworthiness), transparency, and consumer protection on the performance of digital platforms Shopee and Instagram in the context of cross-platform personal data usage, examined through the lens of Islamic business ethics. Data were collected via a cross-sectional survey of 69 active users of both platforms in Indonesia and analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), with all constructs measured through reflective multi-item Likert scales tested for reliability and validity. The results indicate that consumer protection exerts a positive and significant effect on digital platform performance, whereas amanah and transparency do not produce significant effects. These findings suggest that users are more responsive to concrete, tangible data protection measures than to abstract ethical values. The study contributes to the Islamic business ethics literature by demonstrating that concretely experienced consumer protection is the most determinant ethical dimension in cross-platform digital environments, and highlights the need for future research on ethical value internalisation in mainstream digital platforms.
